I don't know
where to start. Any suggestions?
If you and your partner are
new to partner dancing and you want to get started with something
easy, try Dancing to Romantic Slow
Songs. In this video we show you how to jazz up your slow
dance and we teach the basic step of the waltz and the foxtrot.
This video is almost foolproof. The steps are easy and the dances
can be used in a wide variety of social settings. These three
dances can be thought of as "foundation dances" for
your foray into ballroom dancing. These dances use the easy "follow
the leader" teaching approach where you stand in front of
your television and just follow the leader.

There are a many instructional dance video
suppliers. Why should I buy videos from The Dance Store?
The Dance Store differentiates
itself from the other suppliers in several ways:
- First, our tapes
and DVDs are longer than most on the market and they generally
provide many more figures than the videos of our competitors.
Most videos provide enough material to create a complete dance
routine. One of my personal goals is to make learning to dance
affordable for everyone. Unfortunately, learning to dance continues
to be a very expensive undertaking. Im convinced that
it does not have to be.
- Second, we try
to teach leadable figures, figures that most people can use
in lead and follow social dancing.
- Third, we try
to cover more than just the steps and figures. My Hustle
Volume 3 video, for instance, goes pretty deep into styling
and presentation.
- Almost all beginners make the same mistakes.
Strangely, most videos do not address these mistakes. Likewise,
most folks can improve their dancing sharply by eliminating
these typical, common problems. Our videos also address these
common mistakes.
- Most dance videos
receive fairly low ratings from their buyers. Reasons: 1) not
much material, 2) material is not clear or in depth, 3) the
figures shown do not work for social dancing. In contrast to
this, our Amazon.com consumer quality rating remains "Five
Star." We are probably the only supplier that routinely
queries consumer feedback.

I hate back order delays. Do you always have
inventory on hand?
So far, as long as I've been in business, I've never failed
to have product on hand. I keep standard inventories to avoid
delays.

I've got two left
feet and my husband can't hear the beat of the music. Can we really
learn how to dance from videos?
By far, the biggest barrier will be attitude, not aptitude.
A long time ago, I thought about dance ability like I thought
about artistic ability: you either had it or you didn't. Now,
I don't think about either of those abilities like that. In my
short dance career, I've personally watched some folks that I
thought would be (I hate to say it) hopeless develop into formidable
competitors. This experience has been very inspirational and it
has made me completely rethink and reject the notion that natural
talent is destiny. I believe that anybody who can tap their foot
or clap their hands in time to the beat of the music is trainable.
When I observe crowds of folks at concerts, I see that 99% of
the people can successfully clap their hands, tap their feet,
sing along, or play "air guitar" in time to the beat
of the music. Almost every teen-aged boy has played "air
guitar" or "air drums." This leads me to believe
that 99% of adults are rhythmically capable. As far as having
two left feet: again, the barrier is attitude, not aptitude. Social
dancing requires no more "talent" than rope skipping,
swimming, skiing, or riding a bike.
Learning by video offers many advantages.
1) It's cost effective. 2) It enables convenient learning that
fits your schedule. 3) It allows learning at your own pace in
the privacy of your home.

What videocassette
formats are offered?
Presently, I offer standard VHS videotapes in the North American
(NTSC) video format. For some titles, I also offer DVD's in the
standard, North American (NTSC) video format. The NTSC format
works for all players in the United States, Canada, Mexico, and
Japan. I do not offer the European PAL video format but hope to
by late 2004. The DVD's that I sell should work in most European
players, since most of these players can accept DVD's of either
the NTSC or PAL format.

What are the
advantages of DVD's over regular VHS videotapes?
The biggest advantage is that DVD's allow fast, random access
to any chapter on the video. This eliminates the need to fast
forward and rewind and it eliminates the associated guessing about
when to stop the tape. This random access feature is really helpful
for videos that are 90 minutes or longer (like most of the ones
we offer). In addition DVD's are compact, easy to store, and,
unless damaged, they have a near infinite life. Compact DVD players
and DVD-ROM equipped laptop computers can also make DVD viewing
private and portable. Thus you can review your dance moves while
on an airplane or you can take your laptop to your dance studio
or to your partner's location.

What
special features do your DVD's offer?
DVD's by The Dance Store are professionally authored and manufactured
and they work in all DVD players in all regions of the world.
(For orders outside the U.S.,
click here for details.) These DVD's have a chapter stop precisely
at the beginning of every figure. All DVD's have a professional,
easy to navigate menu system, where all chapter points are listed.
Typically, each DVD has 40 or more chapter points. Of course,
unless stopped, the DVD will play continuously, without stopping,
just like a videotape. Our DVD's are not simple "video to
DVD transfers." Instead, our DVD's are made from the original
high resolution digital capture and thus they have superior video
and audio quality. They are pressed on the same manufacturing
equipment used by large distributors such as Disney and Universal
Studios. Each tab forward or back lands you on a numbered title
so that you always know exactly where you are in the video. If
you like to have all of your figures indexed, titled, numbered,
and nicely organized and accessible on compact, easy-to-store,
and nearly indestructible media, these DVD's are for you!
